The director of a prestigious Chinese Academy theater abandoned the 'business to enter a Zen monastery and seek truth meaning of their existence.
Under the guidance of a strict teacher, he and other monks were engaged in endless sessions of meditation, interrupted only by a frugal morning meal.
After a few weeks the former director was given permission to speak with the teacher, "Venerable, all this enforced inactivity is very frustrating, I am a person accustomed to working a lot and so I feel a sense of boredom and uselessness intolerable .
"It is idle to oppress, but too much activity, the incessant activity of your mind, your thoughts. If you meditate long bored I can only advise you to meditate for even longer." The Board found no
way to be harnessed; the monastery it was soon shut down due to abandonment by the monks. By contrast, theater academy, thanks to the arrival of many new aspiring actors, began to work intensively.
